Crema Catalana for Father's Day

Saturday March 15, 2008

Crema Catalana

Crema Catalana or Catalan Cream is the Catalan version of French crème brulée. Since Cataluña borders France, there are folks in Spain who believe that the French dessert actually originated in Cataluña and traveled north to France! We'll probably never know where it came from, and does it matter when it tastes delicious? We don't think so. It is an appropriate dessert for this week, since it is also called Crema de Sant Josep, or St. Joseph’s cream and is traditionally prepared on March 19th, St. Joseph’s Day, Father’s Day in Spain.
