La Mancha is a region located in central Spain and is the stomping ground of the famous literary figure, Don Quijote. A hot, dry area of open plain and covers a large area, including the provinces of Toledo, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Albacete. The largest production of wine in Spain comes from this area. The D.O. of this region are Mancha, Méntrida, Mondéjar, Valdepeñas and Almansa. These popular wines are of good quality and are mild and dry. The wines of Valdepeñas are probably the best known. In general, wines from La Mancha should be drunk when young and their alcoholic content is between 11 and 13 degrees.
