Help! Where can I buy Spanish Food?

Jamon Serrano in Jamonera, Holder

All year readers ask where to buy authentic Spanish ingredients or kitchen equipment to prepare Spanish recipes. However, this time of year we receive more emails because readers are giving specialty gifts, like Serrano ham or piquillo peppers, or they need Spanish paprika or saffron for preparing their favorite Spanish tapas. So, we wrote an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) document with a short list of online retailers we buy from, but we know that there are many more. With that mind, we asked readers to share with us: Where do you go to buy Spanish ingredients or delicacies?, and over time, many have added their advice.

So, if you are searching for a place to buy Spanish food, check out the FAQ and readers suggestions. If there is a special web site or grocery store you swear by, please take a minute to respond and let us and other readers know. No login is required!

I can get just about everything at tienda.com. Be sure to sign up for emails, because they have frequent sales. But if you don’t want to pay shipping, sometimes I can find spices and Valor chocolate at Marshalls, TJMaxx and Tuesday Morning.

Jennifer, thanks for sharing the tip about email sales. We have also found that Marshall’s carries Valor chocolate at our local store around Christmas. Occasionally, we also see turron at Marshall’s, but if you see it – buy it! We saw a few bars while we were waiting in line to pay, but didn’t buy them. We returned a few days later and searched the entire food section and beyond, but could not find any. Cost Plus World Market also carries some Spanish food, but this year they sold out of all the turron more than a week before Christmas. We were only able to buy 4 boxes. Fortunately, World Market also carries a great soft chorizo, which although is made in the USA, tastes just like Spanish chorizo, for about half the price!
